We’re going to ignore the fact that Eleanor is almost ten months old and I’m just getting around to finishing her room. The first and main challenge was that her room is tiny…I’ve seen closets that are bigger! We live in an old farmhouse and they managed to squeeze five bedrooms in here. It took a little rearranging but we managed to get everything to fit. For design, I’d ideally have the crib against the back wall but I need the glider in there for now as she’s still getting up many times a night. We added a large mirror to the wall and it really opens up the room.
When I found the bunny prints I decided that I wanted to do a garden “theme” of sorts, Mr. McGregor’s garden, to be precise. A touch vintage with mostly natural, neutral elements but playful at the same time. If you had seen me debating getting this green crib you would’ve thought it was my final life decision here on Earth. Even after assembling it I was almost certain that I was going to paint it white but now it’s one of my favorite parts of the room. It pays to step outside of your comfort zone! I don’t like to be too literal with any sort of theme or inspiration so I stopped myself from adding a basket full of stuffed vegetables, but I couldn’t help myself with the bunnies. I’m kind of obsessed at this point.
This really shows how small it is but it works…babies don’t need a lot of space.
I found this crate at my favorite antique store a while ago so I moved it in here and tipped it on its side to use as a table. I painted the top white with a little chalk paint to make it look a little more finished. Ignore the unfinished trim…
This dresser was an antique that we brought with us from New Hampshire. We painted it and added new hardware to brighten it up…it had a really dark stain on it that just didn’t work. For the changing pad, I actually cut down a moses basket that we weren’t using and I love the texture it brings! Also, this room gets a lot of light throughout the whole day so it was a struggle to get decent pictures.
I had my eye on a wooden chandelier from Pottery Barn Kids but it was a little too big. I made this one for Matilda’s room a while ago so I moved it in here for now. A couple other things that I DIYed…the stuffed bunny on the chair and the flag banner over the mirror. I love making kids stuff!
And here’s the dolly herself!
It feels so good to have this room complete! I’ll add some sources below. Thanks for reading!
