Happy October! I’m back with another update on the house renovations. We are a little behind schedule; we were hoping to be moving in by the 15th but we will most likely be extending our lease until the end of the month. That way, we won’t be moving into a construction zone. Either way, I’ve started packing!
Reid sanded the first level floors and applied stain and a sealer. We went with American walnut after I saw it on a friend’s floor and I love the rich, warm tone. I did freak out a little when he first put it on, though! I didn’t realize that most of it wipes off…newbie here!
The kitchen floors are oak and came out great but the living/dining room floors are birch and didn’t take the stain as well. The color is a little uneven but I think it looks fine; Reid isn’t so sure. It’ll mostly be covered with rugs and furniture so I’m not too worried about it. Maybe down the road we’ll try something different with them but not now.
Most of the windows have been trimmed and Reid has started on the base boards. The bathroom is also coming along! The toilet and the sink faucet have been installed and we’re just waiting on the sink drain to come in so that the vanity can be finished up.
I had my heart set on a wall-mounted vintage-style faucet and found this one on Amazon. It’s just some random brand so hopefully it won’t have too many issues! I love it and think it adds a unique touch.
I also ordered the sink on Amazon and picked up the table from an antique store. I think we are going to shorten the legs a little and then secure it to the wall. It’ll eventually have a shelf below it but that may be on the ‘winter projects’ list, which grows by the day. I need to find a mirror and a sconce but then it’ll be mostly finished!
I couldn’t get upstairs to take pictures but it’s about halfway primed/painted. The ceilings and floors still need to be finished too. Good news: the kitchen won’t be empty for much longer! The cabinets are scheduled to be delivered today, the sink came in yesterday, and the appliances are in and ready to be delivered too! Christmas came a few months early this year! Reid is planning on installing the cabinets this weekend so maybe next week we will be showing some progress in there. We are still waiting on the countertops and I’m a little worried that they won’t get here until right before we move in. Only a minor detail, though, right?
